» A couple of days ago programs started closing with no error. When I look up the report in Event Viewer I see that the faulting module is ntdll.dll. This affects programs such as Chrome, FireFox, Apache, and Spyware Doctor.

» ntdll.dll is an important NT operating system module, it is located :/windows/system32/ntdll.dll. it has a description of "NT Layer DLL" and is the file that contains NT kernel functions. its common error is Not Found, Missing File, Exception Errors.

This kind of error can be caused by viruses, such as Backdoor:Win32/Atadommoc.C. In this case, it would be useless trying to run SFC (System File Checker).

To fix Faulting Module NTDLL.DLL error, you firstly need to remove the virus with a powerful AV, Hit Malware for example, then fix all the related aspects with the comprehensive dll error repair tool DLL Suite. It allows you to free download any missing or corrupted .dll file, sys files and exe files. Furthermore, it can make up any losses to the operating system because of its three built-in features: fixing exe virus infection, fixing sys file errors and fixing dll file errors. And it is quite easy to use.

Do you remember making any changes to the computer (software or hardware) before having this issue? I suggest that you run System File Checker tool on your computer as it appears that the file could be corrupted.

  2. EDWARD MITCHELL replied on January 3, 2013: » I remember it starting to happen after I had to install Avery Design Pro 5 for a business project; I have also already run SFC and it says no files are corrupted.

I tried registering the ntdll.dll but it said the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. I have tried reinstalling Avery Design Pro 5 and then uninstalling it. I have also done a System Restore but the problem stills insists.

  3. JOHN HARRIS replied on January 4, 2013: » Fault with ntdll.dll must have been the nvidia driver update. Reinstalled windows updated but left off the nvidia display update and all is well pity I couldn't roll. Many thanks to all for the help.

  4. RYAN SULLIVAN replied on January 6, 2013: » I am having the same problem. The provided solutions are not enough. I am using Windows Vista 64 bits. All are up to date, and I run an antivirus to check malware but everything is ok. What is causing this problem?

  5. CHRISTOPHER RATTRAY replied on January 6, 2013: » I was thinking about using IE 9. The reason I mentioned it in the first place was that in similar circumstances a person changed a similar type setting on their Video Card Properties to fix problems with Windows Live Messenger. You are on the right track looking at Nvidia as a possible cause.
