Windows Explorer Crashes Every 5 Seconds

» I have managed to get to error code from the computer; i booted in safe mode it would perform the same crash. I've tried to reinstall just like a repair install over the top of the current install and it wouldn't let me.

» Delete any new programs that you have downloaded. Often, the cause of corruption in a computer system is a bad download that installs harmful files. If you started to get the Appcrash error on your system after downloading a new program or software from the Internet, it's highly likely you have downloaded a bad product. Use the "Add/Remove Programs" feature in the Control Panel to get rid of the program immediately.

Uninstall the program that is crashing. It is possible to fix the program's corrupted files while the program is still installed, but to make sure that you clear the program files completely, it is safest to completely uninstall it from the system.

Run a full scan of your computer. Your computer should already have antivirus software installed that can scan for corrupted files(caused by Trojan:Win32/Orsam!rts and so on) and either fix them or delete them from your system. The antivirus scan will isolate bad files and you will be given the option to remove them from your system.

Reinstall the program that was crashing. Now that the corrupted files have all been removed, your program should run smoothly after reinstallation.

Check for program and other associated dll files' incompatibility with DLL Suite. If the Appcrash errors continue, the program you are trying to use may not be compatible with your operating system or other programs on your computer.

  2. EVELYN FOLAN replied on March 2, 2013: » That's the thing. I can't back up the data because explorer is crashing literally every 5-10 seconds so if u are they to access files when explorer crashes those files close same with a file transfer.

  3. NEIL LANCLOS replied on March 3, 2013: » When the Windows Explorer crashes, Windows Error Reporting Service [1] creates a dmp file under C:\Localdumps. Please upload the file to your public Skydrive [2] folder and post the link here. I take a look at the dump with the Debugger, maybe I can see which Shell extension is the cause.

  4. MARCELA FERNANDEZ replied on March 4, 2013: » Having a way to analyze specific application crashes instead of just BSOD errors (and Minidump files) is very helpful. This is excellent information

  5. GARY BEARMAN replied on March 6, 2013: » Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment, if the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

Also, test the result in Safe Mode. If the issue persists in Clean Boot and disappears in Safe mode, please ShellExView to disable third party extension of Windows Explorer.
